Regular TV or iPhone TV
I am as excited as the next man about the tantalizing prospect of getting TV directly on my iPhone. Now I can waste even more of my time glued to my favorite Apple gadget. The bad news is that iPhone TV is not quite here yet; the good news is that it will be very soon if and when Apple decide to push the relevant buttons.
And they have got every incentive to push the button: Apple know how to wring every last penny of profit out of their deals, and the iPhone TV will be absolutely no different.
The thing about Apple’s ventures in ‘new’ areas like iPhone TV is not that they are the first to do this kind of thing – there are other phones that allow this already – but that they will do it the best. They will also do it the most profitably. Their market position helps them negotiate deals that smaller organizations could only dream of, and their marketing budget will no doubt dwarf the entire turnover of many of their competitors.
The most lucrative part of iPhone TV will be the potential for finely-tuned advertisements, running directly to the advertiser’s target audiences. Now that is worth a pretty penny.
