There is nothing worse than being given a free gift only to discover that it’s not free at all. Unfortunately very little is truly free and there is often a hidden cost. In some cases it is more hidden (actively so) than in others.

Such is the case with the Ares Destiny filesharing program. Ares Destiny is based on the Ares filesharing software and shares many features. On the face of it this is well made software that has a lot to offer both experienced and inexperienced users.

The journey to not-really-free-Ares-Destiny starts off well: “Free download!” the site proclaims, and indeed it is. Installation is easy. Once its on your system Ares Destiny works well, downloading and sharing almost as well as some of the other filesharing applications.

Except this is where it turns out that it is not free, since your computer is now home to a piece of spyware called Dealio which came with your Ares Destiny installation. Not only is this unwanted, it will also pop up ads onto your screen for your ‘enjoyment’. Want to get it off? Hard luck, that’s almost impossible.

All of which mars the enjoyment of Ares Destiny which, on its own, is completely acceptable software.
