Ares

I’m a speedy typist and it’s often the case that my fingers run away with themselves – words quite often suffer the ignominious fate of having their internal letters swapped around. Often my fingers will assuming I’m typing another word (usually one that I type quite often) instead of the one that I actually want. I experienced this a few seconds ago when I typed “internet” instead of internal: I wanted the latter.

So it is not at all surprising to me that the OfficialAres.com website gets a staggering number of visitors to the site that have spelled Ares incorrectly. Some of these typos appear to be genuine mistakes – Aers is ‘Ares’ with the middle two letters the wrong way round, while Aeres and Aris appear to be common misspellings of a common word – but some seem to have their roots in the linguistic differences of many of the visitors.

As an example, take the variation ‘Arez’. This is most common from our French speaking visitors. Another common variation is Aries (and Aires) which are predominantly from those users from Latin America. The strange spelling ‘Areas’ appears in the logs and is largely from those users from Greek and its beautiful surrounding islands.
