Ares connection problem

The epidemic of users complaining about Ares not connecting is skyrocketing. I installed Ares Galaxy on my laptop yesterday and it turns out that I was having the same problem. Frustrating isn’t the word!

A little searching around found a solution to my problem: Ares Vista. It turns out that the problem is largely with older versions of the Ares software (read: Ares Galaxy) and changing means Ares connecting just fine. Ares Ultimate also solves the problem.

The reasons for Ares not connecting are perhaps a little technical. The software contains a list of what are called cnodes. When it is turned off and then back on it attempts to connect to these cnodes (which in essence are the last known good nodes); Ares needs to start the connecting process somewhere and this is it. If Ares (as in the case of Ares Galaxy) forgets to update this last know good list of cnodes then it attempts to connect to ever older lists, and to IPs that are no longer good.

Ares connecting (or not, as the case may be) can be lightening fast (thanks to the clever algorithms in the newer software) but can also be disappointingly slow. Which would you choose if you had the option?
